Bringing that famous Tuff Love energy across the M62, Liam Flanders is the latest guest to be announced for this year's Home Run Soul Club. These two cities may be big rivals, but when it comes to music, it's nothing but brotherly love!
Liam's journey into soul music was heavily influenced by his father ("my ald fella, Flanny") and the Orwell crew, including the likes of Baz Maleedy and Steve Plumb—whose competitive record collecting and long-lasting friendships provided the blueprint for Tuff Love's ethos, resulting in the incredibly successful Liverpool Soul Weekender.
With characteristic humour (think they call that 'Scouse Wit'), Liam describes his sets as "either really shit or half decent!". In all seriousness though, Liam is renowned for bringing the heat, making dancefloor space hard to find when he's on the 1s and 2s.
Taking influence from his European soul experiences, where weekenders in places like Stockholm and Barcelona have provided him with some of his most profound musical experiences, Liam has brought together everything that is unique about the UK and European soul scene and put that vibe into his nights and his sets.
When not spinning soul records, Liam's current soundtrack reflects family life: "Right now it's mainly nursery rhymes and self-help podcasts!." Aside from that, he takes great influence from a wide range of genres such as Hip Hop, disco, folk, jazz... "So basically I just listen to soul," he jokes.
Don't miss this! Liam will be tearing up the floor both at the Tuff Love Liverpool Soul Weekender in June, and then here at the Home Run Soul Club Weekender in October. To give you a taste of how he rolls, he's provided us with five of his faves -
